After Illness, Finding Support for COVID-19 Vaccination

Back in 2021, Mr. Juan, a 39-year-old Spanish-speaking construction worker living in Dallas Texas, questioned whether COVID-19 was “as bad” as some people said. Adding to his hesitation, his working hours made it challenging to get the vaccine, he did not have health insurance coverage, and he lacked the necessary internet access to make a vaccine appointment. Unfortunately, Mr. Juan became sick with COVID-19 in December 2021, and became so ill that he required hospitalization. After recovering, he got vaccinated at the Alliance for Progress’ COVID-19 vaccine clinic, where he was able to just walk in without an online appointment and was greeted by friendly, Spanish speaking staff who helped him through the process. His advice to those feeling hesitant about vaccination: "I recommend that you avoid the scare of potentially not seeing your wife and children again when you get hospitalized with COVID-19."
