Asylum Seekers Find Support in Massachusetts

While distributing flyers for an upcoming vaccine clinic at a local school in the Boston area, a La Colaborativa health promoter met a mother and her children that had newly arrived from El Salvador as asylum seekers fleeing drug traffickers. The promoter helped secure food, clothing, and gift cards for the family, and connected the family to a health care navigator at a local health system. Even though the mother explained that her husband disagreed with her about vaccinating their children, the promoter provided information about COVID-19 vaccinations anyway. The next day, the entire family attended a La Colaborativa vaccine clinic and got vaccinated. They also received coats and clothing and were connected with a case manager to help with their housing situation.
