Helping the Community Navigate Misinformation

Ser Familia has been providing COVID-19 and influenza education and vaccination among Latinos who reside in the Atlanta Metro Area, with a special focus on those who have Limited English Proficiency. One of their community members, 66-year-old Mrs. E. Gonzalez, said that she had heard many wild theories about the vaccines, including the myth that the vaccines were going to be used to track undocumented people. She was being actively discouraged from getting the COVID-19 vaccine by some friends and family, but she decided to attend a Ser Familia community event with two Latino doctors who provided vaccination information and answered questions in Spanish. The event made her feel much more confident about vaccination, and when Ser Familia hosted a clinic near her home in Kennesaw, she got vaccinated. She is now fully vaccinated and boosted thanks to the support she received from Ser Familia.
