Partnering with City Government to Get Refugee, Immigrant and Minority Communities Vaccinated

The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees in upstate New York, also known as The Center, has been working to ensure that refugees who have resettled in the area have access to COVID-19 and flu vaccines, as well as immigrants and minority populations. In these efforts, the Center found a high-profile ally in Utica mayor Robert Palmieri who personally attended several of the Center’s vaccine clinics and even posed for pictures with newly vaccinated residents. His city hall staff also helped transport community members to the Center’s vaccination events. Through this unique partnership, the Center was able to expand their outreach and help more newly arrived Utica residents get protected.
