Washing Away Vaccine Doubts

Martha Alvarado, a long-time volunteer for the Granite State Organizing Project (GSOP) in New Hampshire, spent a day at a laundromat. She approached a family of six – a mother, father, and their four children – to speak to them about the importance of COVID-19 vaccines and GSOP’s upcoming vaccination clinic. The mother dismissed Alvarado before she could get a word out, so Alvarado respectfully moved on to chat with other patrons of the laundromat. Before leaving, she approached the father of the family again, saying she had important information for their children, and this time she was able to capture the attention of both parents. Ultimately, the mother was moved to see the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the whole family was vaccinated at GSOP’s next clinic. “I was a bit hesitant to keep pushing to speak with the family,” said Alvarado, “but I was so proud when they came to the clinic.”
